Mondelēz International is to expand its Nabisco biscuit plant in Henrico, Virginia.

The company will add a production line for Ritz Crackers and add 38,000 sq feet to the existing facility.

The Nabisco biscuit plant was opened in 1973 and currently employs nearly 500. It manufactures a variety of Nabisco crackers and cookies, including Ritz, Wheat Thins as well as Oreo and Chips Ahoy!

Cindy Waggoner, vice president, North America Integrated Supply Chain, Biscuits at Mondelēz, said:  “The bakery in Henrico County is geographically well-situated to support our East Coast business, and this investment is a part of our commitment to create a best-in-class integrated supply chain to support our business,”

Mondelēz will be supported by a $100,000 performance-based grant from the Virginia Investment Partnership program.

The company last year said that it was closing older subscale facilities and growing volume at selected plants and new build factories in a bid to increase its capacity by 25% within three years.
