Lotte-owned chocolatier Guylian will invest €6.8m ($7.5m) to increase capacity at its only plant, in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, by mid-2017.

The company said in a release it hopes to “grow in new segments internationally”.

“We currently have three production lines, so we will add a fourth,” Gunther Deckers, marketing director for Guylian told ConfectioneryNews.

He said the company planned an entirely "new product range" using novel technology allowing different shapes, but refused to divulge further details.

Guylian – which was acquired in 2008 by Korean firm Lotte – produces around 75 metric tons of chocolate daily at the 27.000 m² Sint-Nicklaas plant.

The company intends to add five to 10 additional staff through the new production line.

Guylian expanded its product range at the ISM trade fair in Cologne, Germany, last month.

It introduced green tea and latte macchiato versions of its Sea Horse Chocolates and new packaging for its individually-wrapped range Guylian Temptations.

It also launched ‘no sugar added’ 100 g chocolate tablets sweetened with malititol.
