North America cocoa grind up 5%

North America cocoa grind Q2 2014

Cocoa processing in North America grew 4.52% in the second quarter (Q2), according to figures from the National Confectioners Association (NCA)

North America's Q2 grind was 131,737 metric tons (MT) compared to 126,044 MT in the same period last year. Analysts had anticipated a rise in grindings.

The figures supplied by the NCA come from 17 cocoa processors operating in the US, Canada and Mexico, including Blommer Chocolate, Hershey, Mars and Barry Callebaut.

Earlier this month, the Q2 cocoa grind in Europe dropped 1%, falling below analysts’ expectations.
