Fairtrade International has appointed Marina Vanin to the new role of global cocoa category director.

Vanin served as Southern EU chocolate category director for Mondelēz’s predecessor firm Kraft Foods for three years between 2007 and 2010. She was also Kraft’s marketing director for EU chocolate from 2010 to 2012

Most recently she worked as global strategic initiatives director for meals at Mondelēz.

“I have long been an advocate of ethical and sustainable food production and therefore I am excited to join Fairtrade and support its focus on tackling poverty through trade,” she said

“I am looking forward to connecting everyone in the industry, from confectionery manufacturers to cocoa traders to improving supply chains, increasing Fairtrade’s stake in the sector and enabling more farmers to access international markets.”

Vanin will lead Fairtrade’s new global strategy, and will drive the organization’s West Africa Cocoa Programme.
